Seasons: Winter

Winter

winter We awake to cool, crisp mornings and much shorter days. The cold and rain in winter is never a problem at the ranch, for all cria and their loving moms are all tucked up in the insulated barn in the nursery, and that is when the party begins.
First, it’s shake and roll in the straw, then a game of pull the cria coat off, followed by tag you can’t catch me as we enter the pen to put coats back on. How they must laugh as we slip and slide around on the straw trying to keep our balance.

Idaho winters are filled with cloudless blue skies. The sun’s rays filter down on the grazing herd, the ice cold weather is a welcome time, for it kills all of the harmful parasites in the ground, a much appreciated advantage for us to managing the herd.
